Taxidermy Tip: Bringing an old mount back to life.

the finished 8 pt crown mount

Recently I had a friend drop off his grandfather’s old shoulder mount buck that he wanted refreshed and brought back to life with a crown mount. The buck was dusty and showed it fair share of age but all I needed from it was the antlers and the skull cap. So just like the standard process of putting together a crown mount I got to work. I went with a classic tan felt, walnut plaque, and dark brown rope. Once I put it all together it was amazing how much of a difference it made things look. Rather then an old dusty beat-up shoulder mount it turned out looking like a brand new buck that could have been killed this year. Rather than tossing out old mounts that past family members shot years ago you can always try refreshing them.

old shoulder mount that was looking for an upgrade.
