Deer Season Prep
It's that time of year again when we begin preparing for the upcoming deer season at Brandywine Wildlife Artistry. There are a few important tasks we like to accomplish to ensure a successful and ethical hunting experience.
First and foremost, we prioritize consistent practice with our bows to ensure we can make the most ethical shots possible. It's crucial to maintain our shooting skills and accuracy before heading out into the field.
Additionally, we thoroughly inspect our tree stands to ensure they are in good condition and safe for the upcoming season. The last thing we want is to encounter an unsafe stand during the season opener. While checking the stands, we also take the opportunity to clear any obstructive branches or vegetation, optimizing our setup for the best possible odds.
Mid to late summer is an excellent time to take inventory of the bucks in the area. Although their patterns may change as the season progresses, it's always exciting to capture images of bucks still in velvet and observe the local wildlife. To attract deer and monitor their movements, we utilize minerals and food sources. Fortunately, in Southeast Pennsylvania, baiting is legal, so we make use of mineral stations to entice the deer.
Another task we undertake during the summer is setting up food plots on some of the properties we hunt. Food plots are highly effective in attracting and keeping deer in the vicinity of our stands. This process involves eliminating weeds and grass, tilling and fertilizing the soil, and planting the desired crops. Although it requires significant effort, the results are well worth it, as the food plots significantly increase the chances of deer activity in our hunting area.
Summer is also an ideal time to explore the possibility of acquiring additional private properties or scouting public lands for future hunting opportunities. This proactive approach allows us to expand our options and potentially discover new hunting grounds.
These are the steps we take to prepare for the upcoming season at Brandywine Wildlife Artistry. We wish everyone the best of luck in their hunting endeavors and look forward to hearing your stories of the hunt.
Enjoy the Journey.
