Taxidermy How to bring old antlers back to life.
When you have old antlers that have been sun bleached and you want to bring them back to life its a lot easier then you would expect. Here is my step by step instructions on how to make your old white antlers look good as new.
What you will need:
Wood stain (choose what best matches the color of deers antlers in your area. If you have more chocolate racks go darker if you have lighter color racks go with an oak)
Steel Wool
Semi gloss clear spray paint
Paper towels
What to do:
Start by taking some steel wool and brushing off the antlers getting any loose dirt or debris off.
Once the antlers are clean take your wood stain and lightly dip in the paper towel into the stain, taking the paper towel and starting at the bases brush on the wood stain onto the antlers. I suggest starting at the bases to make sure you're happy with the color. You can also use darker stain at the base of the antlers if you would like.
Once you brush the entire antler with stain take a clean paper towel and brush off any excess stain from the antlers.
Next take the steel wool and brush the burs and tips of the antlers, really anywhere you would like lighter
Final step you can take the semi gloss clear spray paint and spray on a thin layer of paint just to make the antlers shine a little to make them look a bit more natural.
