Duck Taxidermy Prep
With duck season right around the corner I figured now would be a good time to five you a few tips on how to prep your bird for your taxidermist. The first and most important thing to keep in mind is the better condition the bird is in the better the bird mount will turn out. For example, if a bird is missing feathers or is extremely shot up those feathers cannot be added back, and some positions may not end up looking right without those feathers. After your taxidermist reviews your bird, they can help make suggestions on different poses for the mount. If you can’t get your bird to the taxidermist that day here are some tips for how to prep your bird to give to your taxidermist.
Here is how to prep your bird for the taxidermist.
1. If you shoot a bird in the field and you know you want to mount it my first suggestion would be tucking the head under a wing and keeping the bird in a safe place where it won’t get all banged up if possible.
2. Then once you get home take a damp paper towel and wrap the feet with it.
3. Next place the bird in a bad and wrap it semi snug to keep the head in place wings tucked in and tail from being bent.
4. Tape the bag up so the bird stays snug in the bag.
5. Stick the bird in the freezer and take it to your taxidermist.
