Man I Love Texas

In 14 seasons of hunting so far across 10 different states hunting all different kinds of animals, Texas is up there as one of my favorites so far. I hunted Texas on 2 separate occasions once for Rios with my brother and another time with one of my best friends Cody hunting big game. First of all and maybe most important aside from the company I was with the food there is unreal. I must have come home 10lbs heavier from when  I left.  The most unreal BBQ, fantastic Mexican food, and my favorite banana pudding. I don’t think I had a single sub-par meal there. As for the hunting being and mostly hunting in Pennsylvania where everything is so green and lush, switching to bone-dry deserts was an extreme change of scene. I like switching it up and exploring new places which is a huge factor in what makes a hunt exciting for me. cactus-covered landscape with gnarly mesquite bushes for cover. How animals thrive there beats me it is really brutal country. Also being from Pennsylvaina I'm not used to high fence hunting which is very popular in Texas. When I was with Cody he invited me to a family friend's high fence ranch to hunt for a week. Thinking it would be like shooting fish in a barrel I was surprisingly impressed that it wasn’t as easy as I was expecting. Some animals seemed much more use to humans but others like the axis deer were hands down the most skittish animals I have ever experienced. So I learned that high fence hunts really have hunts for hunters of all skill levels. Texas also has your standard ranches that are not high fences that is where my brother and I turkey hunted and we also ran into a lot of success and had a great hunt. Texas is a state that really has something for everyone.
