Our Euro Mount Process
Here at Brandywine Wildlife Artistry, we combine 2 processes for all of our skulls. There are dozens of different processes you can use for your mounts but here is what I do. After skinning and taking all of the meat off of the animal we start the process with maceration and finish with boiling and power washing.
The reason I choose to choose maceration and boiling is for a few reasons. First of all, it is fast, it gets skulls back in my customers’ hands as fast as possible. Second of all, It leaves a very clean skull with no odor. Our biggest goal is to leave your skull as clean as possible so there will not be any bugs getting into it, and this process easily allows us to do that. I have also noticed that this process has allowed me to use fewer whitening agents which leaves us with a stronger skull.
Other options like beetles and burying skulls can take months. Burying I feel can lead to more discoloration. Beetles are a lot of work to maintain they can be finicky to work with and leave a strange scent. Although beetles do a great job and leave more of a museum-quality mount.
Maceration and Boiling have been the best process for us leaving you with a quality clean mount to last a lifetime. There are plus and minuses to each process but that is what works best for us.
If you have any questions about euro mounts, our process, or any other ways of doing it feel free to reach out.
